Oysters with Champagne Mignonette PAINT+PLATE

Bijouxs 2012 Valentine’s Day wishes are sent to you via a project entitled PAINT + PLATE – of course there is a little jewel of a recipe – Oysters with Champagne Mignonette – sending LOVE & LUCK.

What happens when two artists collaborate on a project combining the visual and culinary arts? PAINT + PLATE is a project from painter Melissa Mahoney and yours truly, Bijouxs. The project celebrates the New Year 2012 and a toast to all this Valentine’s Day.

Bijouxs: Little Jewels from the Kitchen is really a marriage of sorts, since we speak of love, of my design-art-culinary professional experience, so the opportunity to collaborate with other creative individuals always brings joy. Here’s the story, via the printed cards created for the project.

The PAINT + PLATE recipe, Oysters with Champagne Mignonette, reflects Bijouxs love of simple elegance, capturing images of everyday beauty in the kitchen and is a Valentine’s Day starter that when paired with a glass of bubbly echoes the theme of LOVE & LUCK.

First, capture the freshest oysters from a quality fish market as close to serving time as possible, ask for them to be shucked – it just makes life easier. (These are Fanny Bay oysters from Bristol Farms) Serve with a simple classic Mignonette, a delicate pale pink sauce, tart and fresh with a touch of my favorite herb chervil.

What else might you serve for this simple romantic feast? Maybe a quietly elegant saffron spaghetti (add about a teaspoon of saffron threads to the cooking water and proceed as usual) tossed with butter and Parmesan cheese, a salad of rich red radicchio treviso leaves, left whole and drizzled with a rich mustard dressing and of course chocolate, perhaps something deliciously fun.

The PAINT + PLATE project has been a wonderful collaborative creative project, my sincere thanks to Melissa Mahoney! Be sure to check out all her paintings.

Bijouxs wishing you all love and luck in 2012 and a very Happy Valentine’s Day.

P.S. The PAINT + PLATE cards were mailed out – if you still would like to receive on instructions here.

As always, enjoy. B

  2. This is, perhaps, my most slow-pokey week yet. My apologies for taking so long to get over here from “A Little Birdie Told Me..” to enjoy your post. It’s important to me to visit and really give my full attention to all the links, but as the party grows it’s taking more and more time. Thank you so much for bearing with me, and for continuing to share your talent at Rook No. 17!
