Beet, Citrus, & Olive Salad

Bijoux Little Jewels | Beet, Citrus & Olive Salad

Pretty in purple. Bijouxs begins a renewed love affair with California organic produce, beginning with Beet, Citrus & Olive Salad, the newest little jewel.

Where to begin…back home in Cali I have embarked, or re-embarked, on my quest for the freshest organic foods available, yet I need to keep life very simple these days (don’t we all?) So, I have begun receiving foods from a organic-to-your-door delivery service, Farm Fresh to You. Do any of you use the service?

The conveninece of having the produce, plus additional organic farm goods, delivered to your door is such a time saver. When I moved back to Cali, I tried to shop for the items I could get a few years ago in the local markets. Ahh, I found my self running all over, many times coming back empty handed, especially in seach of California grown organic strawberries (where did they all go?) Going to local farmer’s markets don’t always work either.

I started my delivery with the Farm Fresh to You’s CSA box (most local produce, within 200 miles of your home), expanding to including things like lush dairy products and farm fresh eggs. From where I am now, my twice a month deliveries are saving me so much time and I am enjoying organic products that I can count on.

This lovely salad is one of the recipes I sampled from the Farm Fresh to You website. I have tinkered with the recipe, but this salad is delicous. I chose blood oranges, beets, and lettuce are from my delivery box. The selections have help me expand my recipe ideations, working with the seasonal selections in each box.

I seasoned the salad with a sprinkling of ground Sumac, which may be a new spice to you. It has become a favorite seasoning in the Bijouxs Kitchen that adds a lovely, nearly purple color, and a tart flavor that is reminiscent of vinegar or lemon. It is an essential ingredient in Middle Eastern cooking.

Enjoy the healthy life in the Bijouxs kitchen with Beet, Citrus & Olive Salad.

As always, enjoy. B
