Bread & Jam Tart

 Bread & Jam Tart

Bread & Jam, a classic combination turned into a sweet tart. This recipe features a yeasted pie crust filled with a simple Everyday Jam to create classic ‘bread and jam.” The recipe  uses the quick Bijouxs Everyday Strawberry Jam recipe from the blog for the filling, keeping things simple, always a little jewel.

Who doesn’t love fresh baked bread smothered with jam? This nursery school classic endures as one of my favorites, a source of simple comfort in a complicated world. I stumbled on this recipe for a yeasted pie crust, and imagined smothering it with jam – the Bread & Jam Tart was born.

If you don’t wish to make your own jam, fill the crust about 3/4 full with jam or jams of your choice. I recently made a mixed jam version with strawberry and raspberry jam, along with some grape jelly, mix and match your favorite jams.

A basic almond crumble tops the tart, bringing a sweet crunch to the soft jam-filled tart. If you wish to use a standard pastry crust recipe, par-bake the tart crust,  then fill with jam and proceed. This will prevent the tart crust from getting soggy.
