Chocolate Cherry Granola

Chocolate Cherry Granola | Bijouxs Little Jewels

Spring is coming and it seems it is already here along the coast in California. Packing it up for the beach or a picnic means bringing along this versatile and healthy chocolate granola–roasted hazelnuts and tart dried cherries make it a morning or anytime snack. A terrific stand-in for those sugary boxed treats. Chocolate Cherry Granola is a preview from my upcoming new cookbook No. 3 The Beach House. Enjoy this little jewel.

EASY HOMEMADE GRANOLA

I’m crazy for homemade delicious granola. This favorite granola is right up there with the all-time granola LA-Style Granola. No need to spend money when easy homemade granola can be had for a fraction of the ready-made cost. Also, I like purchasing my own ingredients, fresh and organic. Buy in bulk from a natural foods store, just buy what you need, then no worry about have odds and ends of nuts and dried fruit hanging around the kitchen.

CHOCOLATE GRANOLA RECIPE

As you may know from my blog, I love granola. This Chocolate Cherry Granola is one kids of all ages love, reminding me of a favorite cocoa cereal from childhood. For the best results, first opt for really good cocoa powder, like Valrhona with an intense chocolate flavor similar to their chocolate, which is favored by bakers and chefs. Ingredients in any recipe really are key, so freshly roasted and shelled hazelnuts and fresh tart dried cherries add the components of crunch and sweetness. My recipe includes a bit of instant espresso powder to complement the cocoa. Pure maple syrup and vanilla bean paste are worth the kitchen investment, they will be used in many recipes.

Chocolate Cherry Granola | Bijouxs Little Jewels from the Kitchen

I like my granola super crunchy and brown, if during baking you feel the granola is getting too brown too quickly, lower the oven to 325 degrees. Bake until the granola is crisp. I let the granola cool completely, allowing those yummy crispy clumps to form before storing in an airtight jar.

Well, now that I am finally living at the beach, it’s time for the Beach House Cookbook. Enjoy this preview recipe, simple beautiful food for the home cook. Thank you for being a part of Bijouxs.

As always, enjoy. B
