Summer Simple Tomatoes with Ricotta & Romano Cheese

Bonnie’s tomatoes defy the season. In the midst of our deepest and long running June gloom here at the beach, these tomatoes have come in early and strong.

A friend sent a message one day to be sure to pick some tomatoes at her house, she was overrun with every variety she planted this year. Maybe the steady stream of rain this season had nourished the plants, so off they went. When I went by to pick the bushes were laden, toppling over, heavy with fruit; what a wonderful gift in deed. Back home in the studio, the fog was rolling in and the light in the studio was everchanging, resulting in these ‘au natural’ images of the tomatoes. Beautiful food.

SUMMER SIMPLE

Back home I set about to construct with my bounty one of my summer favorites, not really a recipe at all, a sort of tomato appetizer/dip or crustless tart? I have been throwing it together for a while and thought I’d share. An easy to pull together appetizer or a summer lunch just add some toasted good bread, maybe rubbed with a garlic clove sliced and a bit of basil olive oil. Just scoop up the tomatoes and cheese and lavish on the crusty bread.
