WELCOME TO CHANGE. A New Year brings renewal, a fresh start and this is particularly true here at Bijouxs. While the little jewels from the kitchen always remain the same, life changes and so must the Bijouxs blog.
Bijouxs has always been about sharing the little jewels, culinary gems garnered from years of collecting. Style, and all its dimensions, is also a part of what I term the “Bijouxs experience”, the visual admiration of the everyday beauty all around us in our kitchens. The Little Jewels Collection seeks to embody the art and practice of the home cook, reflecting charm, beauty and joy. Bijouxs highlights these simple virtues, and aspires to deliver recipes in a manner that does not just merely reflect the times we live in, but also cultural shifts, a return to home, hearth and family – when the best table in town is your own. CHANGE.
Yes, I have welcomed CHANGE. I did not set out to create a food blog or website but instead began over four years ago, designing and writing what I envisioned as series of little jewel cookbooks, my first is available here. I wanted to share the gems of my culinary collection from my years both working in and around food. Of course, given the fact that I am also a designer by training, it was my aspiration that the website and cookbooks be beautiful, practical, and visually reflecting the everyday beauty of cooking at home, in short, the beautiful kitchen essentials.
Welcome more CHANGE. The Bijouxs Kitchen has moved – yes, physically moved – from the lovely little “ranch” we called home for decades to a new environ in the beautiful desert Southwest – a new home and yes, a new kitchen. The busy past six months have included packing and unpacking (a couple of times) selling, purchasing a new home, renovating a new home and finally in 2015 moving in to the home of the new Bijouxs Little Jewels. It took a village – for real – to make this happen and to all, I am forever grateful.
My goal has always been to present little jewels from the kitchen that were both palate pleasing and visually pleasing. I am in the process of deciding whether to continue the blog on a less-frequent basis, or do only cookbooks, or perhaps go an entirely different direction. As always, I’d be pleased to hear what you think. Welcome to CHANGE.
As always, enjoy. B
Always look forward and always enjoy your kitchen jewels
Thank you
Anna heineke
Oh definitely keep blogging— you are so talented and a vital part of our community! I have a special love for the southwest, my parents lived in Sedona for years and we made the trek across the desert many times to visit them…good luck with your decision, and enjoy all your changes coming your way…
Hello Sue. I thank you for being a dedicated reader of Bijouxs and for your cooking contributions via your comments. Love hearing from you. Yes, the desert southwest has something special about it…clear blue skies, open vistas, and the soft colors of the land…a place for artists to dream. Thank you!
I agree with Anna; I always look to see what you’ve posted. (Even Scott does, he’ll say,”Did you see…?” Glad you’re still doing “Little Jewels”!
OMG! Had no idea! Congrats (although I’m sad to see you go 🙁
Where are you?
Lovely Lynn, I have always believed that when someone does something that a. they love and b. they do it really really well, don’t stop, just make a few adjustments to better fit life as it changes. Make your changes, then if you are not happy change them again. So happy for you and your new abode. All that you touch becomes “little jewels.”
My dear friend Sherry – Thank you for your kind and encouraging words! So happy to have spent time with you and your family this past fall and trust I will see again you soon!
your recipes and food photography are some of my favorites on the web! I’m sure whatever direction you go in, it will be filled with style, art and good taste. change IS good! best in your new adventure!
Thank you Amy! I’m so happy to hear that you are enjoying the blog. There are literally millions of food blogs, recipe sites, etc. out there, but… I have stayed with course with my vision for Bijouxs, time tested recipes that celebrate the everyday beauty for those of us who cook at home. Thank you for writing!
I have really enjoyed following your blog. I will be interested to follow, whatever direction you decide to take. My only request? Please keep it easy for us to ‘stay in touch’ with whatever you are up to- via blog or occasional em or whatever you choose. I hate having to ‘refind’ great sources! Good luck to you on your journey -I hope the rewards are plentiful. I look forward to seeing what path you choose!
Thank you Christine for your note. I will make it easy to stay in touch with Bijouxs…quietly crafting the little jewels. Enjoy!
Lynn,
Popping in to wish you all the best in your new digs, and with a new vision. The space you have carved out and created is so incredibly beautiful. I do hope you continue it in whatever fashion suits YOU!
Lynn, wow! This all sounds very exciting and wish you the very best on your new path. As Dorothy said, continue in a fashion that suits you — though I hope part of that is an occasional post because it would be lovely to see how you’re doing and your creations here are always so stunning, and I just love when something new is up for us to feast our eyes on. Congratulations! xoxo
To Valentina and Dorothy – my LA blogging buds – thank you for your kind words and support. You both contribute such wonderful work to the food community. Thank you so much for being a part of Bijouxs and for staying in touch!
What a lovely post, and such a treat to see the Essential Jewel of Bijouxs, You! Exciting news, and new adventures. Selfishly, I’d love to see you continue the blog, if only once in a while. It could be like this one, with pictures of the places you cook as well as or instead of the splendid recipe portraits, if time is an issue. But here’s to change — whatever you do, this remains a gift and I would love to be informed however you go! All the best and Happy New Year, new house, new kitchen, new chapter.
Nancie – Thank you so much! So meaningful coming from a very talented cookbook author, who is also a very generous individual. You have always encouraged me throughout the Bijouxs process, a wonderful mentor of sorts, with words to guide and inspire. My heart is really in my little jewels cookbooks, I think you know that. Good things take time. Thank you Nancie.
Congratulations on your move, Lynn! I can’t wait to see what wonderful concoctions you come up with in your new kitchen. 🙂
Hello Helen! It’s always good to hear from you. Hope you are discovering wonderful foods in your new locale – I will work on things from here. There is a lot of exciting food happening and I look forward to sharing the little gems I find. Best wishes for the New Year.
Wow. Good for you. Can’t wait to read about the adventure of it all. GREG
I really enjoy your blog and recipes. Please keep posting! And, cookbooks are fantastic! If your heart desires, you should do that too! A change of scene is always welcome, and I hope you will be true to your own path. Thanks for sharing your craft these last four years. Best wishes!
Dear Amy, Thank you for writing! I want to thank each of your personally for taking the time to let me know your thoughts on Bijouxs…the internet is a big, big, space with lots of food websites to chose, with our given time. I hope to finish my two other cookbooks, ‘From the Garden’ and ‘The Beach House’ – I made a pretty good start before things got crazy. Thank you and I always look forward to hearing from you.
I’m so excited for you! Moving is such a big decision to make. If you can do that, you can do anything!
It was great spending time with you at the reunion. I hope you’ll come back for the next one. I love reading your blogs and I feel like I’m learning how to cook all over again. But this time it’s fun.
I have long enjoyed your blog and would love to continue receiving it! Of course, cookbooks are wonderful too, and it’s nice to have a formal collection. Just know that whatever you choose to share with the world will be appreciated, admired, and used. Thanks for sharing your beautiful photos and terrific recipes!
Thank you Amy so much for your kind words! I am so happy you enjoy Bijouxs and I love sharing my little jewel recipes, that will never change. Thank you again!
