Pumpkin & Fig Pizza Bijouxs Little Jewels


’Tis the season for pumpkins and figs, an unexpected delightful topping for pizza. Pumpkin is a used as topping for pizza in Italy and this recipe is a little jewel for the season.


Making due with what you have on hand has become a way of life the Bijouxs kitchen these past 7 months. Time has allowed me to review all of my recipes and cookbooks, they are good friends and I enjoy spending time with them. I actually started a hunt in my books on Japanese design and cuisine. Near the end of a favorite book, Wabi-Sabi Welcome, I spotted a recipe in the Italy section that I had missed. Fig or Pumpkin Pizza caught my eye. Hum, I have open jars of fig spread and pumpkin butter with some yummy chorizo sausage, not your first thoughts for a pizza.

The recipe was encouraging, and using Bijouxs 15-Minute Pizza Dough I could get the pizza in the oven pronto. Utilizing these two fall favorites, pumpkin and figs, is a great way to dine in pizza style. Spicy chorizo or prosciutto will work if you want to add meat. A light scatter of soft cheese, such as goat, ricotta or burrata contributes the creamy texture. Top the baked pizza with fresh arugula lightly dressed with olive oil and aged balsamic vinegar.
