Tea for Today Scones

Tea for Today Scones are current, light as a feather and served up in proper modern style. Anytime really is tea time, beautiful food from Bijouxs by Design.

In honor of the release of the new much anticipated Downton Abbey movie, I wanted to get into the mood and bake some of the my favorite scones and have a little modern tea. In my take on a traditional cream tea (scones, cream, jam & tea), I used my modern white dinnerware, simple towel napkins, and succulents grace the table in true laid back LA style.

Baking up a batch of scones is rather quick and easy, which allows a tea to come together when ever the need arises. Yes, sometimes we just need to calm down and have a cup of tea.

The scones of course are the stars and I adjusted Lilly’s Scones to make them a tad more healthy, aka modern, with a few minor changes. One thing that I did not change and really makes this recipe work is the quantity of cream of tarter, which is produces the bumpy exterior but results lovely, light, scones. Baking the scones requires minimal baking skills, and are quite forgiving. They truly are best warm out of the oven, but I have had limited success in freezing the scones then reheating in the oven, just to warm up.

To round out this Cream Tea to salute Downton Abbey, the scones are served with my Everyday Strawberry Jam, Ivy’s Marmalade, and a batch of homemade clotted cream (which I do need to perfect) but tasted wonderful.
